Here's how the competition goes down:

1. Throw Your Hat in the Ring (and Your Bun on the Grill!)
Sign up to register your interest in Burger Nelson Tasman. This gets you in the loop for all the juicy updates and sizzling competition details.

2. Dish the Deets!
Once you’ve signed up, we’ll slide an email your way with a link to spill the burger beans. We’ll need:

  • Your burger’s catchy name and drool-worthy description

  • Allergen info (no surprises here!)

  • Pricing and availability details

  • Any tasty tipples or local legends you’re showcasing alongside your burger

  • A show-stopping, high-quality burger pic (the kind that makes people HUNGRY)

  • Your social media and website links

  • Oh, and your billing details too (gotta keep the lights on!).

3. Pay to Play
Members of Hospitality NZ chip in $150+gst, while non-members will need to fork out $200+gst. Worth every cent for burger glory, right?

4. Get Web-Ready
We’ll build you a sizzling-hot website tile, burger page, and social media post. Be sure to shout about it from the rooftops (and your socials) to drum up those burger lovers!

5. Fire Up Those Grills!
From June 26, it’s go-time! Start flipping those patties and wowing your customers. The heat is on until August 3, so make sure your fans know to vote for your masterpiece.

What are the prizes?

Imagine your restaurant's name being shouted from the rooftops (or at least from the burger-loving crowds) as the ultimate champion of Nelson/Tasman burgers! It's like winning a gold medal for flipping patties.

  • $1000 for the top venue

  • $500 for second place

  • $250 for third place

  • We will be highlighting your burger and business across our website and social media throughout the competition.

Who can enter the competition?

The competition is open to all food venues within the Nelson/Tasman region. Whether you're a well-established eatery or a new contender looking to showcase your burger creations, from food stalls to bars and restaurants: as long as your establishment is based in the area, you can enter the Battle of the Burgers.

The beauty of a burger is that you get to define it! Want to ditch the bun? Go for it! Feel like turning the whole concept upside down? Absolutely.

While the classic beef-in-a-bun combo is a burger's tried-and-true icon, creativity knows no limits. From mini sliders—the adorable “puppies” of the burger world—to bold veggie creations that rival meat patties, there’s no single way to build a brilliant burger.

In the end, if you’ve crafted a delicious filling with something to hold it together, it's burger enough for us!
